How does this year's salary for Physician Assistant compare to other years?
In 2022, the average physician assistant’s salary returned to its steady increase after drifting downward during the pandemic, beating its previous peak in 2018. During the pandemic, some PAs experienced layoffs and furloughs, and others reported burnout (43% in 2020) and plans for a job change (44% in 2020). As a critical part of the patient experience, the urgent need to create a good work environment and cultivate job satisfaction for PAs cannot be overstated.

This report was compiled using data from an original survey conducted from August to September 2022. The 2,571 respondents represent a broad range of U.S.-based clinicians, roles, specialties, ages, facility sizes and experience levels. The age range of respondents is 26-79 and 46 medical specialties are represented. The data from the survey responses was compiled and analyzed by experts in the healthcare industry to formulate the insights shown here.
